Threads & Bluesky¶
Threads (Meta) and Bluesky (AT Protocol) are both text-first networks that also support images, video, and reply chains. They share a family resemblance but differ in their limits and their extras — this page covers each.
Threads¶
Formats and limits¶
| Setting | Limit |
|---|---|
| Caption | Up to 500 characters |
| Formats | Single post, carousel, thread |
| Carousel | 2–20 items |
| Video | 1 per post, up to ~1 GB, up to 5 minutes |
| Alt text | Up to 1,000 characters |
| Thread | Up to 25 posts |
Media rules¶
- Carousels hold 2–20 items — more generous than Instagram's 10. Attach several images (or images and a video) and Buzzator publishes them as a carousel.
- Only one video per post. If a carousel contains more than one video, the extra videos are dropped — build carousels with a single video at most.
Thread mode¶
Set the format to thread to publish a chain of posts, each replying to the one before. A thread can run up to 25 posts. If a post mid-chain fails, Buzzator flags the thread as partially published and links you to the first post.
Reply control¶
Choose who can reply to a Threads post:
| Option | Who can reply |
|---|---|
| Everyone | Anyone (the default) |
| Accounts you follow | Only people you follow |
| Mentioned only | Only users tagged in the post |
Reply control applies to the first post of a thread; the replies in the chain inherit it.
Bluesky¶
You connect Bluesky with your handle and an app password (generated in your Bluesky settings) rather than a normal OAuth login — Buzzator never sees your main password.
Formats and limits¶
| Setting | Limit |
|---|---|
| Caption | Up to 300 characters |
| Formats | Single post, thread |
| Images | Up to 4 |
| Video | 1 per post, up to ~50 MB, up to 60 seconds |
| Alt text | Up to 2,000 characters |
| Languages | Up to 3 |
Bluesky video is small and short
Bluesky's video ceiling is tight — about 50 MB and 60 seconds. Trim or compress longer clips before you attach them, or the upload is rejected.
Rich text: links, mentions & hashtags¶
Bluesky doesn't render inline Markdown. Instead, Buzzator scans your post text and turns @mentions, links, and #hashtags into real, tappable links automatically — you just type them into the caption. No special syntax needed.
Languages¶
Tag a post with up to 3 languages. Setting the language helps Bluesky surface your post to the right audiences; posts default to English when you don't specify.
Content labels¶
Apply a self-label so Bluesky-aware clients render a content warning over your post. The available labels are:
- Pornographic content
- Sexually suggestive
- Nudity
- Graphic media
Thread mode¶
Set the format to thread to publish a chain of reply posts. Each post obeys the 300-character cap. As with Threads and X, a mid-chain failure is reported as a partial publish rather than a clean success.
